Wendy’s sparklers are jewels in charity crown

Unable to find a bracelet to suit, creative Wendy Hennessey decided to make her own. Now she has a hit hobby that’s become a sparkling fundraiser for a cause close to her heart.

Wendy was diagnosed with breast cancer just over two years ago and now friends and Northampton colleagues love her jewellery, she’s selling them in aid of Breakthrough Breast Cancer. Spending all her spare time creating to keep up with demand is also very therapeutic, adds Wendy, who works on AIB and Track and Keying.

She’s already raised £300 since May and is hoping to add to that next month when she’s running a stall packed with pieces at her Site.

Wendy, who’s been in the business for 35 years, hadn’t intended to sell the pretty jewellery, but her first bracelet was such a hit.

“Someone asked me to make them one and then it all went a bit crazy,” she says. She fashions her jewellery out of Swarovski beads, sterling silver and other bits she buys through Ebay. Friends and colleagues love them.

“They have been very generous,” says Wendy. “They made me put my prices up and now I just take out the cost of materiaIs and the rest goes to charity.”
