Set for another fund-tastic year

After a bumper fund-raising 2012, when generous Chelmsford people raised almost £5000 for good causes, organisers hope this year’s activities will be even more successful.

‘Last year was fantastic, one of the best ever, with charity fund-raisers and social event organisers all working together to plan fun events which also raised lots of money,’ reports Charity Representative Ellen Hammersley.

Flow Leader Ellen and fellow long-serving charity fund-raiser, Team Manager Anna Gallacher, organised a whole string of popular events throughout the year.  They included an open air cinema screening, dog racing, a summer bbq, Olympic desk decorating, a panto outing and the traditional Advent Calendar competition featuring the top prize of an iPad, which was won by Michelle Nugent, LTSB Bankers Cheques Team.

Together the events raised an impressive £4981.28, which was divided between local charity the Scott Hardy Trust and Essex Air Ambulacnce.  This year’s funds will go to Cancer Research UK and Essex Air Ambulance.

November’s Big Quiz night, featuring homegrown Chelmsford talent, compere Kevin McKean, Team Manager and Saxophonist Lionel Critchley of LTSB Clearing Team, and his band The Jazzies, raised £515 towards the total.

‘It was a brilliant night in a great venue – the Miami Hotel – which was generously offered to us by the family of Dale Barnes, LTSB Clearning Team,’ adds Ellen, who is now planning another year of activities.  Already there’s been a Valentine’s Day Sweetheart Sweepstake, a bake sale for Gambian school equipment, an Easter Raffle, a Grand National Sweepstake and plenty more in the offing.

‘We hope there will be lots of support for all the events we are planning, which includes a Summer bbq, a trip to join colleagues at the Northampton Fun Day, another Open Air Cinema night and an even bigger Charity Quiz,’ adds Ellen.

‘It looks like being a busy but fun-filled year.’
