DawnWHEN Dawn Wilding had an idea to sell cards featuring her stunning photos of the Remembrance Day poppies, she thought she might make £50 if she was lucky. But she quickly raised £400. Now, not only has she has handed over another £750 as her cards are still being snapped up, but her fund-raising efforts have also been rewarded with a prestigious honour from The Royal British Legion Women’s Section. “I was thrilled and honoured to be recognised with a Merit Award Bar in recognition of outstanding service to the Women’s Section,” says modest Dawn, who had no idea the award was coming her way. “They presented it at a county tea party in front of a large crowd and it was a total surprise. I raise money because I enjoy doing it and it’s such a good cause, but it is lovely to be recognised in this way.” Dawn, a part time member of Chelmsford’s Research Team for the past 14 years, is Secretary and Treasurer of her local Witham Branch and Secretary of the Essex County of The Royal British Legion Women’s Section. “The cards are still selling well so the final total will be even higher. I can’t believe so much has come from such a simple little idea,” she adds.
